“Cirice” and the Seduction of Power

“Can you hear the rumble?”

Ghost’s Cirice feels like a whisper in the dark, a voice reaching out with both understanding and control. A song that reads like an intimate confession—yet carries the weight of something much larger. In the current geopolitical landscape, with a second Trump administration forming under the ideological framework of the Heritage Foundation, the growing influence of techno-fascists, dark enlightenment thinkers, and the ever-present MAGA movement, Cirice takes on an eerily prophetic tone.

“I know your soul is not tainted / Even though you’ve been told so.”

It’s the classic appeal of authoritarian movements: the promise of belonging, of absolution. The reassurance that the pain and discontent people feel are not their fault but the result of a world turned against them. And just like that, a leader, a movement, a savior figure steps in—ready to heal, to guide, to reshape reality in their own image.

“Can’t you see that you’re lost without me?”

There’s a possessive quality here, an assertion that without this force—this ideology, this movement—there is only aimlessness and despair. This is the foundation of power consolidation: first, convince people they are broken; then, offer the only cure. It’s a pattern we see time and again in history, now playing out in real time with the slow creep of authoritarianism under the guise of restoration.

“I can feel the thunder that’s breaking in your heart / I can see through the scars inside you.”

That thunder, that unrest, is real. The scars are real. But who gets to define what they mean? Who claims the right to heal them? Cirice doesn’t answer these questions—it only reveals the dangerous intimacy between power and the people who crave it.

Maybe this post seems random, and perhaps it is. It was an impulsive thought—something about the current moment made this song surface in my mind. Maybe it means something, maybe it doesn’t. But still…

Can you hear the rumble?
