From conflict to unity
This journey traces the steps from conflict and domination, through the dismantling of power dynamics, inequality, and distinction, ultimately moving toward the realization of being—a unified, undivided state. By breaking down these layers of division and conflict, we make our way to a deeper, more fundamental understanding where everything is united in pure existence. Each phase reveals the artificial nature of division and the profound interconnectedness that underpins all of reality.
Step 1: Conflict (Control and Domination)
• The starting point is conflict, driven by control and domination, where one entity or group seeks to impose its will over another.
• This leads to struggles for power, creating imbalance and opposition.
Step 2: Breaking Down Control (Self-Determination and Equality)
• From the desire for domination comes the counterforce of self-determination and equality—the push for individuals or groups to reclaim autonomy and demand equal rights.
• The very structure of control begins to face challenges, as people seek the ability to determine their own paths and share in equal opportunities.
Step 3: Disrupting Power Dynamics (Power Dynamics)
• As people strive for equality, the power dynamics of those who wish to maintain control begin to be challenged.
• The entrenched systems of dominance are shaken as awareness rises of how power is distributed unequally, calling for systemic change.
Step 4: Dismantling Inequality (Inequality)
• Power imbalances naturally lead to inequality—the systemic distribution of advantages and disadvantages based on group status, race, wealth, or other distinctions.
• As these imbalances are recognized, inequality is no longer accepted passively, and efforts begin to address the root causes that perpetuate it.
Step 5: Addressing Disparity (Disparity)
• Disparity manifests when the unequal distribution of power, resources, and opportunities creates visible, harmful imbalances between groups.
• The disparity becomes unsustainable as it perpetuates cycles of conflict, and solutions are sought to address these inequalities directly.
Step 6: Overcoming Difference (Difference)
• Difference is often seen as the source of conflict, where groups are considered fundamentally separate or opposed.
• As people confront disparities and injustice, they begin to see that difference is a surface-level illusion; much more connects us than divides us, and understanding is built across perceived lines of separation.
Step 7: Transcending Distinctions (Distinction)
• Distinctions—the classification of ‘self’ versus ‘other,’ ‘us’ versus ‘them’—are a core part of how division is maintained.
• The work of empathy, dialogue, and mutual understanding leads to the dissolution of hard distinctions. People realize the artificial nature of these separations and see commonality where there was once division.
Step 8: Rewriting Duality (Duality)
• Duality creates the tendency to divide reality into opposing pairs (good/bad, us/them, etc.), which reinforces conflict and division.
• By questioning these dualities, we begin to realize that both sides of an apparent opposition are part of a larger whole. Embracing complexity, we see that duality is a simplification of a richer, more nuanced truth.
Step 9: Reconfiguring Polarity (Polarity)
• Polarity—the tension between opposites—creates balance but also fosters conflict, as it often emphasizes the differences between forces (light/dark, right/wrong).
• Understanding that polarity exists as a necessary dynamic rather than an adversarial force allows us to move beyond the tension and toward integration, where opposites are seen as complementary rather than conflicting.
Step 10: Recognizing Relativity (Relativity)
• Relativity teaches us that everything exists in relation to something else. Our perspectives and experiences are shaped by context and relationships.
• Moving beyond rigid oppositions, we see that what once seemed like inherent divisions were simply contextual, and in shifting perspective, we find common ground.
Step 11: Embracing Interconnectedness (Interconnectedness)
• Interconnectedness reveals that all things are related, and nothing exists in isolation.
• The realization that all beings, events, and ideas are interconnected dissolves the separations that lead to conflict, bringing a sense of collective responsibility and shared destiny.
Step 12: Reaching Oneness (Oneness)
• Oneness is the realization that all things are fundamentally connected in a unified whole. The boundaries that once divided us are recognized as illusions.
• As oneness becomes clear, conflict recedes, and cooperation, empathy, and mutual understanding flourish. The distinctions that fueled divisiveness are no longer significant.
Step 13: The Core Essence: Being (Being)
• Beyond oneness, we reach being, the simple, undifferentiated state of existence.
• Here, all forms of conflict, power, and distinction vanish into pure, undivided existence. We are no longer divided by the illusions of separation—only the pure, fundamental essence of being remains.
Step 14: The Unnamable Core (.)
• Finally, beneath all concepts and words, we arrive at the unnamable core, an ineffable essence that cannot be grasped by thought or language.
• This is the purest state of unity—where even the concept of unity itself dissolves into a presence beyond all distinctions.
